HGTVPro.com Best Practices Video Player

This application was designed to provide multiple video assets to professional contractors covering many aspects of the business and industry. Some of the business goals of the project included:

  • Categorized video library
  • Syncronous banner and video pre-roll ads
  • Syncronous video content and links

The HGTVPro.com Best Practices video player has seen a great deal of industry succes including but not limited to a Macromedia Site of the Day award.

HGTV 2006 Rose Parade Video Puzzles

The main goal of this project was to increase HGTV.com’s Flash Player 8 penetration by offering the user a reward for downloading the latest player. The reward in this case is a Video Puzzle experience that is very difficult without the new Flash Player 8 Bitmap Class. One month after these puzzles were launched, HGTV had doubled their Flash Player 8 penetration from 15% to 30%.

Introduction to Captionate 2.0

Flash Video combined with simple ActionScript gives you, the developer, the ability to synchronize video content with additional data such as text, images and even links. This functionality has been enabled since Flash Video started with Flash 6, but is now easier to implement with tools like Captionate and the Flash 8 Video Encoder. This article focuses on the basics of Captionate 2.0 and its ability to synchronize video content with persistent data. I will not go in to detail of any feature; however I will try to cover Captionate from a broad spectrum. I will assume you have never used the application and will explain not only what’s new, but also the existing features from Captionate 1.0.
